How many photos you need for your hotel ?

I can almost hear you saying as much as possible and I agree to some point..

It’s always good to have many high quality photos of your rooms, f&b outlets, spa, fitness center, signature dishes and some amazing life style photos.

But.. Quality never should be sacrificed for quantity and this is where professional hotel photography comes into play.

There is maximum number of photos you can get out of a certain time frame in a photo shooting. And budget of photo shooting directly relates to photographers time that spent at your hotel.

So basically trying to push for more photos keeping the time constrained may significantly reduce quality of photos.

For example, I normally spend 40 minutes to 1 hour for a standard room shooting for each frame which includes staging and other preparations. to get 5 photos of a single room, you have to to consider minimum of 3.5 - 5 hours to get those 5 high quality photos.

Anyways a decent professional hotel photographer will tell you how much time needed to get number of photos you ask and will expect you to consider budget accordingly.

Hospitality photographer is required to have extensive knowledge of many photography genres like architectural photography, lifestyle, food photography as well as other aspects like interior design, hospitality industry trends, online purchase behavior of customer and etc.

As a luxury hotel photographer I very often check photos of hotels and you would be really surprised to see number of mediocre photos in web sites of even World's most luxurious hotels and resorts.

Is this because of pressure of quantity over quality or simply wrong photographer choice ? we can never be sure.

but my point is quality is unexpectedly overlooked much often than one can imagine.

Let's get back to main topic ; Ideal number of photos for your hotel.

Based on this tripadvisor study,

  • having at least one photo on your property page may bring 138% more traveler engagement and 225% increase in booking inquiry.

  • with at least 100 photos, engagement levels rise to 151% and booking inquiry rises to 238% compared to properties with no photos.

A similar result from another study by Expedia shows ;

  • A single photo increases a hotel's likelihood of conversion by %225.

  • There is a big increase in conversion after 20 photos per property, including at least four images per guest room, with one of the bathroom. Best number for a big hotel is 100

While bare minimum is 20 to 25 photos, based on researches and my experience as a photographer as well as a former hotelier, 100 is a good number to aim for entire hotel.

100 high quality photos !
